11. COMPETITIONS
11.1 RULES
(1) Each competitor shall be allocated a number which they shall keep for the duration of the competition.
(2) Each competitor shall be allocated an anvil for each event and shall not change anvils during an event.
(3) Events may be subject to alteration according to the organisers' discretion.
(4) All horses for shoeing events are to have no shoes on at the commencement of the event.
(5) It is the responsibility of each competitor to be on time for his events. Failure to be on time may result in disqualification from the event.
(6) Competitors and Officials only are allowed in the competition area during events.
(7) There will be no direct communication between competitors and the judge during an event. If a competitor has any difficulty during an event relating to equipment or horse, he must approach a Steward.
(8) Only one piece of steel is to be cut by each competitor for Eagle-Eye events.
(9) Steel may be marked prior to the commencement of the event, but must be cold at the start of the event.
(10) Specimen shoes and other items made by the Judge as specimens may be measured by competitors but must not be traced or outlined in any manner on any material.
(11) No persons, including the competitors, shall inspect or make comment on any work done during the competition until it has been judged.
(12) Only one foot of each horse being used in any event may be lifted at any one time.
(13) No mechanical devices such as benders, stall jacks or electrical grinders are to be used during any event.
(14) Any action seen as detrimental to any horse by any competitor may result in disqualification from the competition of that competitor at the discretion of the Stewards' Committee.
(15) A time limit shall be given for each event and work must cease when time is called. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the event of the offending competitor
(16) Competitors shall be judged only on work completed during the allotted time limit for an event. However, the live-shoeing of horses, if not completed within the time limit, must be completed by the competitor after judging or at the discretion of the Judge.
(17) The Judge's decision on all points shall be final.
(18) All competitors shall complete at their own risk.
(19) Other specifications, as detailed in the programme of events, are to be adhered to.
(20) A competitor may not take part in any event of a competition unless the appropriate entry fees have been paid.
(21) Any competitor who has paid entry fees for a competition, and who forfeits an event or events at that competition, shall not receive any refund.
(22) The use of top and bottom swages relevant to the Blacksmithing and Farriery trade shall be allowed at the discretion of the Competition Committee, unless these tools contravene Rule 13 of this section, and details of permitted tools are to be published in the Competition Schedule.
(23) In any competition class designating the use of a fireman, the fireman is permitted only to tend the fire and brush steel between the fire and anvil unless otherwise stated. A fireman/striker is permitted to strike in addition to the above.
 
11.2 ADDITIONAL RULES FOR COMPETING IN COMPETITIONS
(1) Points shall be allocated to all competitors in a class, eg 10 competitors 1st place is awarded 10 points, and last place is awarded 1 point.
(2) Points shall be allocated for all classes except Eagle Eye and Team Events.
(3) A competitor starts at Novice level and on accumulation of 100 points can no longer compete in a novice event and moves to Intermediate level.
(4) Upon accumulation of 200 points a competitor can no longer compete at Intermediate level and moves to Open level.
(5) A person with 200 points or over must compete in Open events.
(6) A competitor who progresses to a higher level of competition eg Novice to Intermediate or Intermediate to Open and who fails to place or win in a number of competitions may appeal to the Executive Committee to withdraw back a level.
(7) A competitor who has progressed to a higher level of competition and who has not competed for a considerable period of time may appeal to the Executive Committee to withdraw back a level.
 
11.3 COMPETITION RECORDS
It is the responsibility of the Organisers of all competitions to forward all scoresheets and results of the competition to the Secretary within seven days. The Secretary will keep a record of competitors who have won or placed in novice, intermediate and open events.

 
 
(1) On evidence submitted to the National Secretary, a list of competitors and their relevant status i.e.: Novice, Intermediate or Open, shall be sent out to Member Association Secretaries at the beginning of each calendar year and in the event of any dispute arising, as to a competitor's status, this list shall be used as a reference to settle any matter.
(2) Member Association Secretaries shall notify competitors of their status and this status will remain with that competitor for the next twelve months, regardless of their progression through the Novice and Intermediate ranks, and shall be re-assessed the following year.
(3) Competitors may compete in classes relevant to their status throughout the year regardless of their placings in competitions, it is in their own interests to progress through the ranks to be assessed for a higher level, i.e.: Intermediate/Open.
 
11.4 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS
In the event that the Association wishes to send an Australian Representative Team to compete at an International Competition, entries of which close prior to June 1st, the Executive Committee shall consult the records of all individual open events of the National Championship Competition held in the preceding year, and preference shall be given to those competitors who have been awarded the highest number of points.
11.4.1 Only open competitors will be eligible for the Australian team selection.
11.4.2 Unless otherwise determined, all members of the Australian team shall be responsible for their own expenses incurred in taking part in any international competition.
 
11.5 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION
11.5.1 A National Championship Competition shall be held at a time and place to be decided upon by the National Executive
Committee following appropriate representations to the National Executive Committee from the host State's association.
11.5.2 Each Member Association will be given the opportunity to host the National Championship Competition on a rotational basis.
11.5.3 Should any Member Association decline, then a replacement Member Association shall be determined at the Annual General Meeting.
11.5.4 The executive Committee, after consultation with the Executive Committee of the Member Association, shall be responsible for the appointment of two Judges and the organisation of a programme of events for the National Championship
Competition.
11.5.5 Unless otherwise determined, the Member Association acting as host of the National Championship Competition, shall be responsible for all costs incurred in the running of the competition.
11.5.6 Prizemoney for Competitions shall be raised through the entry fees, sponsorship, donations, raffles or other such methods.
 
11.6 INTERSTATE TEAM COMPETITIONS
11.6.1 The Association or a Member Association may organise an Interstate Team Competition as a separate competition or in conjunction with any National or State Championship competition.
11.6.2 Member Associations wishing to participate in an Interstate Team Competition must nominate their team members prior to the commencement of the competition.
11.6.3 The number of competitors required to constitute a team must be specified in the programme of events preceding the competition, and must not exceed four.
11.6.4 If a State is unable to field a full team in an Interstate Team competition a competitor from another State may be co-opted.
11.6.5 If the Interstate Team Competition is run as a separate competition no points will be awarded to any individual competitor.
11.6.6 Unless otherwise determined, the organising body shall be responsible for all costs incurred in the running of such competition.
